Numerous scientific studies carried out by a team of scientists from the University of Washington and reported in the Journal Of Affective Disorders have amply demonstrated the psychoactive effects caused by cannabis, in particular by THC, which, if taken in low doses, would significantly reduce the effects of stress on the body and mind.

However, in susceptible and reactive subjects, the use of CBD can provoke states of anxiety and, in extreme cases, cardiovascular effects such as tachycardia, together with possible variations related to blood pressure.

How does this phenomenon happen, albeit purely subjective? What can be the causes? For example, can cannabis CBD be used to treat anxiety, stress and insomnia?

We will answer these questions for you ¦ besides, you can learn about CBD being legal in Europe by following this link.

The help of CBD against anxiety, stress, insomnia

CBD Cannabis would therefore help to combat anxiety, insomnia, stress and depressive states effectively: in recent years, there have been many studies conducted on the effects of cannabis.

However, the first to have addressed this topic through an objective scientific approach is that conducted by a team of American scientists from Washington State University led by Carrie Cuttler, associate professor of psychology, who studied and experimented through a " real life " study, the effect of cannabis CBD smoking on the multiple symptoms of well-being.

That study, published in the scientific journal Journal Of Affective Disorders in 2018, actually represents an unprecedented attempt to evaluate and demonstrate in a concrete way how cannabis, taken in different concentrations of tetrahydrocannabinol or THC and cannabidiol or CBD, can significantly affect the psychophysical well-being of a subject.

For the first time, the effects of cannabis CBD by inhalation were evaluated on subjects they used no longer in the laboratory but at home, in a comforting and undoubtedly less impactful environment from a psychological point of view.

The research used an app called Stainprint, usually used to track medical uses as well as the extent of the symptoms of over 280 different pathologies. This app, during the study of Prof. Cuttler, was set to record the sex of the subject, the amount of CBD taken and expressed in " puffs " or single puffs, as well as the percentages of the main active ingredients, namely cannabidiol, which however it has no psychoactive effects but on the contrary, partially counteracts the action of THC, and tetrahydrocannabinol instead responsible for the psychoactive effects of cannabis.

The team of researchers then asked itself a series of questions helpful to validate or deny the hypothesis linked to CBD as a remedy for anxiety, depression or stress. The same was submitted to the subjects' attention, an integral part of this study.

They then tried to understand if the self-reported symptoms of anxiety, depression and stress were really reduced following the use of cannabis CBD, if sex influenced the response and if the subjects examined found any interactions between CBD and THC.

They also evaluated whether the symptoms underwent variations according to the dosage taken and whether the effectiveness of cannabis varied over time to conclude with any changes related to the symptoms, both in the short and in the long term, as well as from the period before the intake to the following one.

Twelve thousand were the responses from the more than 1,400 anonymous subjects examined who were taking cannabis CBD for therapeutic use in the treatment of anxiety, stress, insomnia and depression.

They, therefore, had to quantify, according to a numerical scale from 0 to 10, how the entity of the perceived symptoms varied in the 20 minutes following the assumption and in this case, the Stainprint app itself played a decidedly relevant role as it allowed the researchers to analyze the answers formulated by the subjects more objectively and in the daily routine of their natural life without having to undergo or be influenced by an unfamiliar environment such as a laboratory or hospital outpatient clinic.
