Lia Thomas has been breaking records in tournaments, and now
people are outraged about her sexuality.
Lia Thomas, formerly known as Will Thomas, is mired in
controversy.
The young athlete has been smashing and setting new records,
attracting the attention of several athletes.
The University of Pennsylvania's swimmer's performance has
been widely discussed after her performances in the 200m freestyle and 500m
freestyle were deemed medal-worthy.
The tri-meet saw a new star rise in the name of Lia Thomas,
but after her sexuality and history was leaked, athletes from the opposing
teams expressed outrage and disappointment.
Lia Thomas is a Trans woman. Lia was born and raised as a
man, and her gender transition is unknown to the general public.
Her most recent competition as a male, however, was on
November 16, 2019. Lia was a dedicated swimmer prior to her current appearance
as a female athlete.
Lia previously played for the school's men's team as Will
Thomas for three years before joining the women's team.
Although her transition details are kept private, according
to NCAA rules, she must have completed one year of testosterone suppression
treatment in order to compete in a tournament.
Her time for the 200m freestyle was 1:43:47, and her time
for the 500m freestyle was 4:35:06.
Lia Thomas is a University of Pennsylvania transgender
swimmer.
She has been representing her school in various tournaments
for over three years, but this was Lia's first season competing in a women's
tournament.
Athletes have expressed their dissatisfaction with her
record-breaking performance on social media, with Coach Linda Blade taking to
Twitter to state that what is happening is wrong and that they should return to
sex-based sports.
Meanwhile, Thomas revealed that her gender identity has not
affected her swimming ability and that she plans to continue swimming in the
near future.
Lia Thomas is a 22-year-old lady.
She began swimming at a young age, having been born in 1999
in Austin, Texas. Lia has referred to herself as a swimmer since she was five
years old.
She was, however, born and raised as a boy and spent her
entire adolescence as a male player.
She must have transitioned into a female at the age of 20,
as she is now in her early twenties.
Lia Thomas' parents have yet to be identified.
They have not come forward and have kept their identities
hidden.
Similarly, when asked about her parents and families, Thomas
has kept her lips sealed.
Lia Thomas is a transgender American swimmer at the
University of Pennsylvania. She is the most recent target in the culture war
debate over whether transgender women and girls should be allowed to play on
female sports teams.
Lia's height is estimated to be 5 feet 8 inches. Exact
measurements are not available at this time.
Parents of the University of Pennsylvania women's swim team
are demanding that the NCAA change the rules that have allowed transgender
swimmer Thomas to dominate the competition on his own.
Ten parents wrote a letter to the NCAA, which was then
forwarded to Ivy League and University of Pennsylvania officials.
He is of white ethnicity and of American nationality.
In high school, Thomas was a standout swimmer. However,
details about which high school he attended are still being investigated.
Lia Thomas has already broken two US records, winning the 1,650
freestyle in 15:59.71 seconds, beating her closest rival Anna Sofia Kalandaze
by 38 seconds.
Lia Thomas, 22, dominated the 1,650-yard freestyle at the Zippy
Invitational Event in Akron, Ohio, finishing 38 seconds ahead of teammate Anna
Sofia Kalandaze.
Lia Thomas won in 15:59:71, with UPenn teammate Anna Kalandaze
finishing in 16:37:44. Thomas' win set a new record for both the Zippy Meet and
the pool where it was held.
Earlier events at the same event saw her break two US women's
swimming records.
Thomas set the first US record in the 500-yard freestyle on
Friday, December 3, with a time of 4:34:06. She beat Kalandaze by 14 seconds
after beating him by 38 seconds the day before. At the Zippy Invitational at the
University of Akron this month, Thomas, a transgender student at the Ivy League
university, dominated the 500-yard freestyle preliminaries and finals.
In the finals, Thomas broke the Ivy League record with a
time of 4:34.06 and set new school records in the 1,650-yard freestyle and
200-yard freestyle events.
Thomas had competed on the school's men's team for three
years as a guy. Thomas' performance on the women's team has reignited debate
about whether transgender women should be allowed to compete alongside
biological girls.
Parents of roughly ten swimmers wrote to the NCAA, the Ivy
League, and Penn athletics authorities about their concerns about the integrity
of women's sports, according to The Daily Mail.
It is not Confirmed if she has undergone any Surgery.
Following the emergence of American college swimmer Lia the
world federation of swimming, Fina, will appoint a group of specialists to
develop a new guideline on transgender women competing in female sports.
Thomas, 22, swam on the University of Pennsylvania's men's
team before transitioning and now competes as a woman after receiving
testosterone treatment for a year.
It has sparked a lot of debate since, despite the fact that
her times have dropped from when she swam as a male, she is still winning races
by a wide margin and is on the verge of breaking Katie Ledecky's seven-time
Olympic record.
