Grand Vitara vs HyRyder: Powertrain and Fuel Efficiency

The new Grand Vitara and the HyRyder have similar choices for their engines and the way they work. Both of these hybrid SUVs have two engine options “ a mild hybrid and a strong hybrid. The mild hybrid in the Grand Vitara uses Maruti Suzuki's four-cylinder K15C engine with an Integrated Starter Generator (ISG). This engine makes 103 horsepower and 137Nm of torque. You can drive it with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

The strong hybrid in the Toyota HyRyder car uses Toyota's three-cylinder 1.5-litre TNGA Atkinson Cycle engine. It's paired with a 177.6V lithium-ion battery. Together, they produce 115 horsepower and are connected to Toyota's e-CVT transmission. Both SUVs can be equipped with all-wheel drive, but only when using the mild hybrid engine.

According to Maruti Suzuki, the mild hybrid version of the Grand Vitara can travel about 21.11 kilometres on one litre of fuel, while the Intelligent Electric Hybrid version can travel about 27.97 kilometres on the same amount of fuel. Toyota also says their mild and strong hybrid engines can achieve the same fuel efficiency numbers.

Conclusion “ Grand Vitara or Urban Cruiser HyRyder?

When comparing Grand Vitara vs Toyota HyRyder, both the powerful hybrid versions have a lot of appealing qualities. They are also refined, with low noise levels and a smooth engine, creating a luxurious driving experience. However, the downside is that there aren't many choices in terms of different versions with this strong hybrid engine. There's only one type of transmission available - the e-CVT. The higher price might also concern some buyers, even though a strong hybrid can save money in the long run due to better fuel efficiency.

On the other hand, the mild hybrid versions are great for people who prefer a comfortable drive. While they might not have the same power as strong hybrids, they are still efficient and practical for everyday use. Unlike the strong hybrid models, the mild hybrid ones don't have paddle shifters, which might be a drawback for those who like a sportier drive.
