From Lagos Roots to Abuja Dreams
Born on October 19, 1993, in colorful Lagos, Nigeria,
Tochukwu Gbubemi Ojogwu wears the pride of his Igbo heritage. He grew up early
in Lagos and later moved to Abuja at age 17, where he completed his junior
secondary education at Christ the King College, Gwagwalada. It was in his
second year that friends began to call him "Odumodu", a title that
later became his stage name, Odumodublvck.
Raised in a polygamous Christian family, he is the only
child of his mother, with six siblings, two brothers and four sisters from the
other marriage of his father. His father passed away due to cancer, and he
shows respect when he lovingly mentions him as "Diokpa" (meaning
"father" in Igbo) on social media.
A Scholar with a Mic
After junior school, Ojogwu went on to study for a time at
Bowen University, before completing his B.Sc. in Mass Communications at the
University of Lagos. While the training developed his communication abilities,
it also shaped his perspective as a narrative teller, a valuable skill in his
music.
Career Milestones
Although his early freestyle rap conflicts showed his
talent, it was sometime around 2017 and 2018 that he began releasing music with
purpose. He then joined the creative group Anti-World Gangstars, where he found the
support and camaraderie needed to raise his level of art.
His major breakthrough was in 2022 with "Picanto,"
for which he was featured by Zlatan Ibile and Ecko Miles. The single, his first
on NATIVE Records (in partnership with Def Jam), quickly went up to #65 on
TurnTable's Nigeria Top 100. He later won the much-sought Next Rated Artist
award at the Galaxy Music Awards, which came with a Lexus gift, a position that
confirmed his breakthrough.
But nothing could have gotten him ready for March 2023, when
he dropped "Declan Rice." The song hit beyond Nigeria, topping
TurnTable's Top 100 and even being played at the announcement of Arsenal's new
player, Declan Rice. The artist also reportedly contacted Rice personally in
London.
His passion was not in vain as he released the EZIOKWU
mixtape, which earned Larry a name and Def Jam exclusive record deal. And in
early 2025, he released the project "THE MACHINE IS COMING," another
new chapter of his sound book.
Style, Persona & Philosophy
Odumodublvck's music is marked by genre mashup, mashing
Afrobeats, hip-hop, drill, grime, and highlife into something uniquely his own.
His vocals are rough but understated, often injecting rare common tales that
resonate with Nigerian audiences.
He's also renowned for his symbolic Okpu Agu ("lion war
cap"), a traditional Igbo warrior crown he wears on and off the stage. But
where image and audio end, real impact is where he's most focused. In a January
2025 interview on HIPTV's "Trending," he discussed how:
"I have never tried to be famous… I only thought about
doing nice stuff and impacting people with it."

genres with unapologetic narrative, Odumodublvck has built more than a music
career, he's built a movement. With chart-topping singles "Picanto"
and "Declan Rice", record deals with major companies, high-profile
awards and a passion for staying real, he is building a unique niche in the

and cultural prominence. Yet still down-to-earth, still generous and still
driven, not by fame or wealth, but by power and identity.
